Guilty pleasures

Posted over 5 years ago
There have been plenty of posts regarding people's guilty pleasures as far as music that they listen to. I'm kind of sticking my neck out on this one, but it's probably my guiltiest-est. "Hi, my name is Jacob, and I like Eurythmics." I understand that most people believe that only 50 year old women and gay men like them (not an insult, by the way), and I am neither, but I can't help it. Maybe it's because my mom listened to them when I was young and impressionable. Maybe it's because my wife likes them and listens to them still (and Annie Lenox, of course). Maybe there are more of us 20-30 year old straight men that like Eurythmics and Annie Lenox but are just afraid to admit it. I'm not gonna count on that last one. I'm used to being "weird". But, hey. I blame MOG for the safe, friendly and respectful environment that made me lower my defenses.

  1. champy says You have absolutely nothing to worry about. You have finally come out of your Eurythmics Closet. Don't you feel so much better. My guilty pleasure is my genuine appreciation and love for a little band called....Third Eye Blind. Don't get me wrong I'm sure many people love them as well, but when I hear them constantly compared to Matchbox 20, I find myself questioning my own abilities and/or affinities torward poppy/grunge/your mom thinks they are ok too music. No shame, no shame!

  2. Manos says No shame in Eurythmics love. As for my guilty pleasures, I grabbed a Paul McCartney & Wings CD from the library so I could play Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey for my son, and I ended up downloading half of it.

  3. Kid Charming says I dig the Eurythimics, too. Annie's a great singer, and Dave's a great musicion/producer, and they're both good songwriters. 1984 is still one of my favorite albums.

  4. mitchyd says I was actually thinking about this topic this morning and I would probably have to go back to some Hair Metal and say Dokken. I had another non-hair metal band this morning but I can't recall who it was.

  8. Geertje says What? Eurythmics is a guilty pleasure? I thought it was cool to like them! I have since I discovered their 'Revenge' album in my parent's record collection when I was 10. Hmf, I wonder what else I like that I'm supposed to be feeling guilty about..

  9. CobyHoff says Well, it's not as bad for you. I just get the impression that I'm not supposed like them, because I'm a guy. But that's all out now.

  10. Geertje says I just heard an old guilty pleasure on the radio and I still love it - I bet my gender won't mitigate this one: KC and the Sunshine Band: Give it up. Aargh, the embarrassment!

  11. Beardywierdy says Dead Straight. Annie Lennox is far and away the best female singer to hail from this island for as long as I can remember. And Dave Stewart, whilst retaining a hugh degree of oddness, is a damn good guitarist and a genuinly funny bloke. I liked The Tourists, I like 'em solo, and I like the Eurythmics. Love thy tunes without fear of ridicule!
