Three Days in Charleston: Will Hoge, the Beach, Punches in the Face

Posted over 3 years ago
Okay, I'm going to copy-and-paste a blog that I recently wrote on MySpace here in the MOGisphere so that my fellow MOGers can enjoy it as well. I'm not gonna post the whole thing here because it contains lots of pictures that aren't really gonna work in the context of my MOG profile. But feel free to leave any comments that you have about the blog here on MOG. And... enjoy.
DAY 1:Arrive in Charleston & check into my $270 per night hotel that I got for $75 a night. Thank you Priceline dot com!Drive to Isle of Palms.Go to The Windjammer. I forgot how much I love this place...Ash P and Co. arrive a little while later. They've been out on the beach for hours it seemed. I think Ash is going for the "I want to be African" look in her tan. If so, her plan is working well...Friday Night's concert is incredible. Will performed "Sunshine Burn," which he has NEVER performed before (outside of his old band, Spoonful), so that's pretty awesome/special.The concert ends with Will performing "Tiny Dancer." Yeah. The Elton John song. As performed by a Southern Rock band. Pretty incredible. "Tiny Dancer" is quite possibly the 2nd greatest sing-along song EVER (the first being, of course, "Bohemian Rhapsody") and this performance turns into a huge sing-along with Will & the audience. Amazing energy in the room. I'll never forget it...Talk to Will & Co after the show. Will says that the new album is done -- they're just waiting to release it because "The Man Who Killed Love" is just starting to gain some momentum, so they're gonna let it roll. But he said, if we've got time, he'll let us hear the new album sometime this weekend! SWEET.Gary talks to Adam (a Greenville native) and asks him about his guitar technique and who he should go to for "lessons" back in Greenville. Adam offers to show Gary some stuff tomorrow if we show up to the venue early -- about 6PM.We ask will if he's going to perform "When I Can Afford To Lose." He says maybe on Sunday because it's going to be a much more laid-back show...It's 2:30AM. Time for bed.
That's all you get! For the rest of the story, including days 2 and 3, you're gonna have to click here. There you'll not only find the rest of this blog, but you'll get the full illustrated version.

  2. blackbirdonalonelywire says I heard Will's new album last month. It's amazing! I'm so excited about the new album. On first listen, I think I actually like it better than "The Man Who Killed Love." It's much more of a songwriter's album.
