Of Montreal - Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer?

This is the first time in a long time that I've really liked an album that just came out. It's also the first Of Montreal album I've liked. It's also the first "dancy" album I've liked. Really liked... alot. Of Montreal to me has always been a band I thought I should like and wanted to like, but it just didn't work out. I'm not familiar with all of their albums, but the ones I do have don't s

Weird Al is a Genius

I love it when I hear a song that I knew first as a Weird Al song when I was a kid. I don't care what James Brown is really saying, I'll always hear "Got to have an operation!"

Bob Dylan at Budokan

I got a copy of Bob Dylan at Budokan for my birthday. For those who don't know, this is a live album from 1978 during Dylan's "Vegas" period. This is a full band production.. real full: backup singers, bongos, horns, squealing guitar solos. Oh my. This is definitely worth a listen for Dylan fans simply because if hurts so much. I don't know which is worse: the version of "Mr. Tambourine Man"

My Sharona

"My Sharona" is such a good song. And I don't mean that crappy radio edit that cuts out most of the guitar solo. I mean song 1, side 2 of Get The Knack. I don't usually care that much about guitar solos, but this one is more than a solo. The entire band builds together over the whole solo section. The speeds up, it gets louder, and when the drummer hits those triplets... ROCK. It's the best t

New Morning

In 2002 I had a copy of this little-known album by Bob Dylan called New Morning in mp3 format on my computer which I listened to a bit. My general impression was that it was Dylan being an old man comfortable with his little family. When that hard drive crashed, I didn't worry about re-downloading that album. Over the past few years, however, I have started seeing New Morning more and more at i

Old 97's

Old 97's have always been a band my friends were into. For me, their music was alright and I've enjoyed listening to it in friends' cars and all, but I never felt the need to really listen to it on my own. I'm not sure why - it's catchy and energetic and reasonably clever - it just never clicked with me.But today I just cannot stop listening to "Time Bomb" over and over again. It's so franti...

Me (Chris Freeman)

Bawston Sean told me about the embedded music player so I figured I'd better try it out. I'm working on a new CD so here is a "mog.com exclusive" posting of a song from it. This may not be the final mix, but it's pretty close. see also:www.chrisfreeman.comwww.myspace.com/chrisfreeman

Murfreesboro, Tennessee is a town that loves 60s-Kinks-Zombies-Beatles-Beach Boys-based pop. And by that I mean short songs with few surprises and instantly catchy choruses. As a musician in Murfreesboro, you don't have to know the difference between a 7 chord and a major 7 chord, you don't have to be able to solo, but you'd better be able to write a chorus that 50 kids can sing along to at the

The Jack

In Nashville we have a radio station called "The Jack." Perhaps you have a station like this in your market. Their slogan is "we play what we want" and they boast a larger playlist than "typical" radio stations. I am now subjected to this station for 8 hours a day and let me tell you something: there is absolutely no way that they actually play what they want. I can believe that some people ma
