Fighting Soundtrack - a knockout, set to hit stores next week!

I don't know about you, but I'm personally very excited about Terrance Howard's new movie Fighting, hitting theaters next week. Besides being one of my favorite actors, Terrance Howard seems to play roles in movies that have a huge focus or impact on music. Starting with Hustle and Flow, Howard played a street pimp trying to make it as a rapper. This role, although gritty and realistic, really showcased Howard's musical ability and actually featured Howard rapping/flowing throughout the entire film. Hustle and Flow showcased Southern Rap down to it's very roots and really launched Howard into stardom.
Next Howard appeared in one of my favorite movies, Crash. While Crash is not centered around music like Hustle & Flow, I feel the directors used the music to really evoke the audience's true feelings. Music played a powerful component in Crash. Based in Los Angeles, there are hints of West Coast Hip Hop throughout the film and even Southern rapper, Ludacris, plays a key role in the film. So even though this movie wasn't based on music, music still played a huge role. This kind of reminds me of Howard's new movie, Fighting.
Here's a quick description of the movie, I'm very excited to see next weekend:
| Small-town boy Shawn MacArthur (Channing Tatum) has come to new York city with nothing. Barely earning a living selling counterfeit goods on the streets, his luck changes when scam artist Harvey Boarden (Terrance Howard) sees that he has a natural talent for streetfighting. When Harvey offers Shawn help at making the real cash, the two form an uneasy partnership. |
As Shawn's manager, Harvey introduces him to the corrupt bare-knuckle circuit, where rich men bet on disposable pawns. Almost overnight, he becomes a star brawler, taking down professional boxers, mixed martial arts champs and ultimate fighters in a series of staggeringly intense bouts. But if Shawn ever hopes to escape the dark world in which he's found himself, he must now face the toughest fight of his life. |
I'm not really sure what Howard is going to deliver this time - but I can comment on the soundtrack and couldn't be happier. It looks like a great mix of East Coast Hip Hop from Miami/NY legends, like Rick Ross to up-and-coming Brooklyn acts like Miss Eighty 6 and the DeeKompressors. I believe the movie is set in New York, so highlighting east coast acts was probably a good call by the producers.
I've highlighted Rick Ross' song Hustlin' in this post, because I think it embodies the feel and gritt of this film. I can't wait to see Howard and Channing Tatum together on-screen and I'm sure this is going to be a smash. Here's a track listing of the movie soundtrack that will go on-sale Tuesday, April 21st.

Thi is a really strong soundtrack. While I'm not a big fan of UFC or anything this movie looks pretty good. Need to check out those ads I've seen around.
But that will have to wait, I've got some Moggin' to do.
