When the President Talks to God

Posted over 2 years ago
I just discovered this Bright Eyes clip yesterday...It's from Jay Leno's show, and I thought it was so effing brilliant that I just had to post it. It's definitely controversial considering it's about religion and politics, but it's exercising his freedom of speech. Remember, freedom isn't free, and silence is definitely consent. Good to see that some people can remember not to hold back what they feel is wrong. This is how you rebel against the conformed beliefs that's goals primarily consist of narrowing minds so questions won't be asked and truth won't be found.Tell me what you think...I know it's controversial and all i have is love for everyone; whether you agree or not.

  3. Dale says Ya know, this is a really good protest song, but I don't really find it all that controversial. Our entire society is now so vehemently anti-Bush that anyone with a song like this is welcomed, not ostracized. Along those lines, I think it's funny that Conor says that he'll no longer do political songs for his next album because he says it's all to obvious that things need to change. I also don't find the religious parts controversial, because, from the tone Conor uses in the song, especially the final verse, he lets us know that the President doesn't really talk to God when he makes the deplorable choices he makes. That's just one guy's take, of course.

  4. ChinaBull says Considering the differences of opinions there are, religion (tell me if I'm wrong, but i believe Conor is Atheist, or non-Christian), and politics are always controversial to many people. It was the final verse that says "When the president talks to God who is not" that I was referring to because as you said, the President (or anyone else) really doesn't talk to God when he (anyone else) makes the choices he (they) makes because "God is not". They aren't exactly my beliefs or anything, but thats a translation. It is obvious things need to change, but most importantly, people need to take this example as a model for speaking out against everything they feel isn't right. There would be no Bush administration if people were active in rebelling against what they think is wrong! Rebellion is the more powerful than any authority...it's all about rebelling for a cause, not to rebel simply against authority like a school-yard punk, but give justice to what's right through actions opposite of the ones taken presently.
