MUSIC SIGNPOSTS ON THE WEB'S LONELY ROAD

So, having just seen Indiepixies post about Glasto, I was inspired to add my two pence worth (twopennerth for Northern English types and two cents for our American friends...)

So, what am I saying? Basically, my point is this - I was at Glastonbury last year, and it was indeed genius and I had a great time, but it was also probably one of the most exhausting weekends of my life! Something you hardly ever consider when seeing pictures of people in the mud is how it's utterly knackering... Not convinced? Allow me to paint a picture...

You are seeing a band on the Pyramid Stage and you fancy going to the Park or Jazz World to see someone else... You fight/wade/swashbuckle/traipse/trudge/slip/slide through the massive variety of mud types (the variety of mud types is a whole other post - there are hundreds) to get to your destination, which is knackering, right, but what you tend to not realise is that when you get there, you can't sit down, since you would be

a) On your own and thus unable to see anything but legs since everyone else has more sense

b) Much more filthy than you already are with many hours left

This fact is something of an exhausting realisation, and when coupled with the infamous rocket fuel that is Brothers Pear Cider and the various other 'factors' which contribute to a great weekend, well, let's just say, it's pretty damn knackering! I suppose it's probably a pretty good workout though, in it's own little way!

This year, the festival is a weekend later, and from the coverage on the BBC it seems to be much drier than for the last few years... Damn, I should have gone!

This year though, me and my friend Bruce decided that we needed to see Radiohead and the solution we arrived at was Rock Werchter in Belgium, next weekend! I can't wait... The line-up is great and the price was damn good (about 90 quid I think) so I'll let you know how it goes!

I'll add a 'Live From Glastonbury' track to this post methinks - how about some SFA, since I saw them ther last year and they undoubtedly had the greatest bass sound of the festival...

Still, should have gone to Glasto...

i suppose i'm just getting old and out of shape, but i find all music festivals to be exhausting these days.  10 hour days, mostly in the sun, trying not to spend too much money on concession drinks and little opportunity to sit down?  whew!  and that's before you factor in mud!  thank the stars we have mud-free fests here in the states.  sometimes i think i need trucker speed - the herbal ginseng pills you see next to the cash register at truck stops - to endure the whole weekend...  (have you ever tried those pills?  OMG they are STRONG!)
