Tagging Classical Music

Posted almost 4 years ago
Now that I have a bit of time on my hands again, I have thought of another, albeit slightly mundane question to ask my fellow MOGgers...
How do you tag your classical music?
Being a bit anal about having all my music suitably tagged (especially when it's on my Zen V), I often encounter trouble when trying to tag classical, since the fields provided by default in mp3 files just don't have all the fields required... For example, 'Artist'... Who, in the classical world, is the artist? Is it the Composer (e.g. Beethoven) or the Orchestra (The London Philharmonic) or the Conductor (von Karajan)? It's very confusing and I was wondering how you guys get round this?
OK, as an adjunct to this post, I think I'll add the first movement of Schubert's 8th Symphony (the 'Unfinished'). This was one of the first classical pieces I really got into, and I think one of the first that I repeatedly listened to. It's a shame it was 'Unfinished', since I reckon it's great. I was going to start rabbitting on about the circumstances of it being unfinished, but "Wikipedia":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Symphony_No._8_(Schubert) does this better than me, so there we are...
Anyway, share your thoughts about tagging classical stuff - I am intrigued.
Thanks to all who replied to my last post btw, and thanks for the warm welcome.
Cheers

  1. Groon says I've only posted a little bit of "classical" music, mainly some Debussy, but I think tagging by the composer makes the most sense, really.
