MUSIC SIGNPOSTS ON THE WEB'S LONELY ROAD

Artist:

A new Nevada law will require bands to have at least one member of the recording group be in the band in order to claim a connection to, or label the production a "tribute" or "salute." The passing of the bill comes after Mary Wilson of the Supremes and of the bands like the Coasters and Sha Na Nas arguments that bands were touring and claiming to be their respective bands.

Wilson tried suing the five groups currently touring the world and calling themselves the Supremes, but lost the cases, and with that, lots of money.

Maxine Porter, the last surviving member of the Drifters and another advocate of the new law told lawmakers, "In a town like [Las Vegas], where you have a constant flow of tourists, this is a place where people expect to have authenticity. You don't need to see the Drifters advertised on three different marquees."
