While Metallica's Death Magnetic, the band's ninth studio album, idles quietly in oblivion until its unknown September release date, the metal band have gone on to tease us with its tracklist. The Rick Rubin-produced 10-track record is the first time the band have worked on an entire studio album with current bassist Robert Trujillo.
Among Death Magnetic's cryptic titles is the third version of "The Unforgiven." The original (and best) of course appeared on 1991's Black Album, and "The Unforgiven II" on 1997's "Reload."
In other Metallica news guitarist Kirk Hammett will join Slayer's Kerry King, Anthrax's Scot Ian and Alice In Chains' Jerry Cantrell in the all-star metal tribute to the late "Dimebag" Darrell Abbout at Ozzfest on August 9th. The event, centered in Dallas this year, where the Pantera and Damageplan guitarist called home, will include performances of songs from the Pantera's song list.

I still remember like it was yesterday when Eddie Trunk (yes, the VH1 metal dude, DJ etc.), who worked at Alwilk Records in the Morris County Mall here in NJ at the time, came from behind the counter, grabbed the CASSETTE (!) of "Kill 'em All" and handed it to me and just said "buy this". Naturally, it blew my mind. I've loved Metallica since the beginning, but have completely given up on them since that Load and Re-Load bullshit. I hope Trujillo injects some life into them, and I'll give the new album a chance, but I think they're done. And, IMHO, Kirk being on the same stage as Kerry King is a slap in the face to Kerry. Except for one song, Slayer has never compromised themselves...Metallica sold out long ago.

I still kind of liked Load, but I have to say, I'm not on the edge of my seat waiting for this album......and yeah, Unforgiven III???? It's like how Rocky the movie was great, but, you know, after like Rocky 18 or something, whatever.

I have ripped every Metallia CD into my PC up to ...And Justice For All. I own the Black Album but didn't rip it for my iPod. That is when they jumped the shark. I hope they put out a great album, but I doubt it.

I liked a few songs on the Black album but was disappointed with it overall. I think they should have called it a day after that one and could even live without Black altogether. I just don't think they have anything left in the tank. I heard how great the some kind of monster DVD was, so I watched it a few weeks ago. It was painful to watch in my opinion. The music was awful and they all seemed like they legitimatley hated playing together. I'm sure a ton of bands go through it, but in Metallica's case there is nothing to save. They stopped making good music a long time ago. They've been making bad music longer than they made good music. At some point you have to realize you don't have to put music out for the sake of putting it out. The fact that a metal band thought abandoning solos was a good idea shows that they have truly lost their minds. I truly hope I'm wrong, cuz I could use some new rock music. I'll catch them live regardless, and hope they keep the new songs to a minimum.
