I've been meaning to write a Kid Rock post for days now, ever since I saw him perform his summer radio hit "All Summer Long" on a Letterman re-run a few weeks back. I'm not a huge Kid Rock fan. When I first heard the song, which samples the melody of Warren Zevon's "Werewolves of London," steals the chorus of "Sweet Home Alabama" all awhile Rock reminisces of his boyish summers in Michigan, I thought, "Damn, Rock has some deep-seeded Lynyrd Skynyrd issues. He crushes hard."
And then all the radio stations in Chicago, especially 99.5 (the country one, which yes, s I scan through because nothing but Chris Isaak is on all the other stations) decided to start playing this song like it was 2007 and Rihanna's "Umbrella." And I really started to like it...a lot...especially for its sing-a-long refrain.
And we were trying different things
We were smoking funny things
Making love out by the lake to our favorite song
Sipping whiskey out the bottle, not thinking 'bout tomorrow
Singing Sweet home Alabama all summer long
So my Kid Rock shout out comes at the same time the country rap-rocker got off pretty easy for delivering a knuckle sandwich to a non-fan at a Waffle House last fall. Rock pleaded no contest in DeKalb County, Georgia to the assault charges. The verdict: Rock was fined $1000, sentenced to a year probation, six anger management classes and 80 hours of community service. He must be laughing his way back to the lake with a whiskey bottle in his hand right now
Should I be embaressed I like this Kid Rock mash-up of two classics so much?

Anger Management seems to be pretty hip these days. I am left to wonder why none of these clowns get Sadness Management or Euphoria Managment. It's just expensive rehab holidays and ANGER Mgt. Doesn't seem fair to the other emotions.

I just love that Kid, with all his money and fame, still rocks Waffle House.

I don't think you should be embarassed...that is the beauty of music; there is no right or wrong, it's just preferences. I have to say, though, that as soon as I heard that song I was irritated (because of the Zevon ripoff, and although he MENTIONS skynyrd IN the song, most people under the age of 45 would have no idea where the werewoles of london riff comes from--I mean, prob. think it's original Kid R. stuff......but again, people can like whatever they want (and it IS still kind of catchy).
