MUSIC SIGNPOSTS ON THE WEB'S LONELY ROAD

Every year during the hottest week in New York City the people at Village Voice organize a little shindig called the Siren Music Festival in Brooklyn that brings everyone out in as little clothing as possible to see great indie rock bands for (que the magic word...) FREE.

This year, it being the eighth time around, the event will include headliners Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks, Broken Social Scene, Beach House, Times New Viking, the Dodos, Parts & Labor, Annuals, the Helio Sequence, Dragons of Zynth, These Are Powers, Film School, and Jaguar Love. It all goes down at Coney Island on Saturday, July 19, 2008 from 12:00 noon - 9:00 p.m. Pack a lunch.

To me, it sounds like a line-up for a Pitchfork Music Festival, and ironically they're both on the same weekend. While the P.fork crowd throws a 3 day party, Siren is only a one day affair. Bummer, considering only 3 years ago it was a double-decker.
