WHERE MUSIC IS WORTH MORE THAN MONEY

Artist:
Album:
Track:

So the Internet has been a buzz with word that Beck is releasing a new album he worked on with producer Danger Mouse, aka the fro-top of Gnarls Barkley. Yeah, it's great news and all, but with all this NIN, Radiohead and Coldplay free tunes business as of late...simply the fact that Beck's whipping out this album this summer doesn't get my little heart pounding like the word...FREE.

So news that Beck went into the studio with Danger Mouse back in December to work on a few tracks which quickly became an album's worth of 10 songs...doesn't excite me so much. Nor does the idea that, according to MTV, Cat Power lends her chops on back-up for a track. And the fact the album is only a little over 30 minutes only validates my point exactly...it should be FREE. I don't really care that the music on the new yet-to-be titled effort bridge "economy and experimentation...while consistently manifesting Beck and Danger Mouse's shared interest in psych-rock, folk, electronic minimalism and orchestration." The word I want to see in there is FREE.

Give me (and the rest of the world) this album for FREE. Come on Beck, I've paid for your last four albums so you should really just hop on the band wagon and cough that shitz up for $0. The stickers from The Information cover art were fun and all, but, you know what else is fun these days (and the last 8 years), not having to open up my wallet for music...

...unless it's his September 20th show at the Hollywood Bowl with special guests Spoon and MGMT. I'd pay to see that.

yeah - free is good - i'm very curious as to how this whole record industry will look in the next couple of years - i mean - it's getting to be expected for artists to just go off and release free albums - free songs - free downloads - but while that's fine for the bands that can tour and sell out big venues - make their money with tickets and tshirt sales - how is it going to affect the smaller bands that struggle to just pay for the gas to get to the gigs? it's going to be interesting to see what happens. i just hope it's something good for the artists....

Eh. Everything can't be free.

Plus he has those Scientology tithes he has to pay on a daily/monthly/yearly basis. Xenu has his needs.

sorry -> if it was free, I still wouldn't want it -> unless he was willing to pay me to take it...but even then he would be at a loss, unless someone was digging through the local trash dump after the dump truck dumps my garbage there, before it gets ran over with that giant smashing machine -> just trying to be nice to the guy -> ah, then again, maybe not!

I'd buy it. I trust Beck AND Danger Mouse enough to pay for pretty much anything they do.

If not the whole thang free, then at least a taste-test. For some reason I am obligated to listen to every Beck album to check for him using the word "Pants." It's a reoccurring bon-mot for him.

we the people def. deserve a taste-test, perhaps a single or two. For some reason I always saw beck as such an innovator in the music scene, that he'd be jumping on the FREE bandwagon ASAP. anyone else?
