Nothing can stop Madonna. The woman, as projected earlier last week, is Number One again on the Billboard Top 200 with her latest album Hard Candy. Her album sold 280,000 copies its debut week, crowning Madonna with her seventh Number One debut. Only Barbara Streisand has one up on Madonna with eight Number One debuts.
It makes me wonder how she does it. She defeated Mariah Carey who held the Number One spot for the last two consecutive weeks with her Island Def Jam album E=MC2. The problem is ... is that I don't even really like her single "4 Minutes." Do people just buy the album because of an early childhood obsession? Do people feel she can deliver good music consistently? People, let's not forget American Life. Will there ever be another pop star as big as Madonna?
No, I don't think so.

I will gladly forget the cover of "American Pie", a song that doesn't need anymore air play, or covering. I get sick just thinking of it.

She has been absolutely deft at marketing herself and her image over the years.

I don't like her stuff, except for maybe a couple of songs if I browsed through her back catalogue, but I respect her. Nearly 25 years 'on top', after numerous reinventions, may not be courtesy of her (mediocre?) artistic (singing) talent, but surely is proof of one hell of a commercial business brain.
Though this time, it seems, a trend follower rather than initiator in her collaboration with Justin Timberlake? I mean, getting Justin Timberlake involved with your album seems 'all the rage' at the moment, to a point where I feel rather over-Timberlaked with so much music all there carrying that same distinct Future-Sex-Love-Sound.
When Duran Duran's latest album (made in collaboration with Justin) was released several months ago, my significant other made the mistake of purchasing it blindly, not realising he had just bought the worst DD-album of all time.
Let's hope Madge fares better.

After the nuclear holocaust, only cockroaches and Madonna will roam the earth.
