When I was five and would pull the brat card, my mom would always say things like "You don't know how lucky you have it." This statement usually was followed by lectures on starving children in Africa, orphans who need clothes and other scenario's that would scare the bejesus out of me and make me put the Cabbage Patch doll quietly back on the Toys R Us shelf ...and make me determined to be the 1st grader who raised the most coin in their orange UNICEF box.
Radiohead's new video for the In Rainbows' harrowing track "All I Need" re-evokes the dichotomy of children around the world that my mother made me privy to at an early age, and later, on trips to Africa and China, I would see first hand.
The band has partnered with MTV for EXIT (End eXploItation and Trafficking), the network's campaign against the exploitation and slavery of children around the world, in creating a video that also serves as a public service announcement.
