What the heck!!

Before he gives us another Postal Service album, Death Cab For Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard has invested his tour-earned cash on a vibraphone that is to be the foundation for his new musical project called Just Jazzin'? But Gibbard fans shouldn't get too excited, it seems it's all an April Fool's joke.

This "new project" can be tuned into via the "Just Jazzin'" MySpace page. Gibbard shows off his Jedi xylophone skills with behind the back maneuvers.

People are catching on too. "Genius! Better than everything Death Cab have ever recorded! Quit the band! Go solo! Free yourself from all conventions!" One MySpace-er wrote. While a fan by the name of TJ feels that "jazz clubs across America will feel the pain" from the conventionless endeavor.

"....there’s this side of me and my music that desires a lack of structure and Just Jazzin’ does that for me because I am allowed to just play whatever note comes into my head", says Ben who name checks legendary vibraphonist Lionel Hampton, Bobby Hutcherson, Milt Jackson as influences for the project.

There is also a side of Gibbard who probably likes to call people up on April Fool's day and go "I'm pregnant. Haaaa!! Just kidding. It's April Fool's Day!!"

I've been waitin' for that jazz vibe groove to make a comeback, and there's no time like now. Gibbard can do for vibey jazz what Devendra has done for Vashti Bunyan...
