The Decemberists frontman Colin Meloy will release a new album of live recordings from his 2006 solo tour, dubbed Colin Meloy Sings Live! on April 8th. The two-week tour across the U.S. found Meloy covering tracks by British vets, folksinger Shirley Collins and the Smiths frontman Morrissey - both of whom Meloy honored separately with live EP cover albums (i.e. Colin Meloy Sings Morrissey and Colin Meloy Sings Shirley Collins). Meloy also covers Fleetwod Mac, R.E.M, and Pink Floyd on the live album, in addition two unreleased tracks, "Dracula's Daughter" and "Wonder" make their way on the set. “Devil’s Elbow,” dates back to Meloy's first band, Tariko. While other cuts on Colin Meloy Sings Live! come from Meloy's days with the Decemberists, including a cut off 2006's Kill Rock Stars EP, Picaresqueties, “Bandit Queen,” and tracks of the band's critically-lauded The Crane Wife.
The Decemberists play four shows this week in the Pacific Northwest – January 22nd and 23rd at Portland’s Crystal Ballroom, and January 30th and 31st at Seattle’s The Moore Theatre. Meloy plans to head out again on a solo acoustic tour this spring.
