The list of nominees for the 2008 PLUG awards, dedicated to recognizing media and music in the independent community, has been announced. The top nominees for this year are Of Montreal, Battles, Dan Deacon. The chick from Bat For Lashes pops up a few times on the ballot, as do Radiohead (they're indie now), Arcade Fire, The National and Spoon. The 2008 awards show will take place March 6th in New York City. Artists and presenters will be announced in the future.

The voting process is simple and takes 15 minutes. Just head to to the PLUG Awards Web site . The fan vote is then combined with an advisory vote and voting college.
The first PLUG Awards were held in 2001 as an online ballot. The first actual awards show was staged in 2005. Past winners include Tokyo Police Club, Band of Horses, Bloc Party, Arcade Fire, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Interpol, TV On The Radio, RJD2, Bright Eyes, Sufjan Stevens, Dillinger Escape Plan and more.
