Guitar Gods Gather For Clapton's Crossroads Festival

Guitar legends including Buddy Guy, B.B King and Clapton himself played for about 28,000 at Eric Clapton's second Crossroads Guitar Festival on Saturday. Held in Bridgeview, Illinois' Toyota Park, just outside Chicago, the event lasted 11 hours with promising artist like Robert Randolph, Beck and John Mayer also on hand with their axes. The sold out event shadowed 2004's inaugural affair that lasted over a two-day weekend in Dallas, Texss, and raised money for Clapton's Crossroads Centre, a rehabilitation facility in Antigua.Other performers included Sonny Landreth, Sheryl Crow, Albert Lee, Mahavishnu Orchestra founder John McLaughlin, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Derek Trucks and Vince Gill.Clapton who joined Sonny Landreth on stage earlier played a 95 minute set that paid tribute to both Bo Diddley and George Harrison with covers. The Band's Robbie Robertson even came out for the Diddley cover "Who Do You Love." Steve Winwood also came onstage and played Blind Faith, Traffic and classic Clapton tunes with songs with Slowhand.The festival, with mash-ups and guest collaborations from many artists involved exemplified that Eric Clapton truly has a rock and roll heart.
