“Fab, if you were black and I was a woman, we’d have a severe case of Jungle Fever right now.” This is the type of jargon that plagues the Strokes relaunched Web site, www.thestrokes.com. Gone is the old-school eighties TV that brought you tour updates and the hottest deals in Strokes merchandise. The old TV has been revamped by an Atari-friendly video game screen, which tunes into personal band videos, pictures from guitarist Nick Valensi’s personal collection and snapshots of the rockers as toddlers. Along with the usual merch and tour links, fans can join message boards and chat live with each other. The final highlight is the new “outta-this-world” alternative video for “You Only Live Once,” from director Warren Fu who also helped design the new site. The bad news is that there is no new news on whhether the Strokes are officially taking 2007 off. Last week a MySpace bulletin circulated, and was picked up by some major music news sites, claiming:"The band are still enjoying some much needed 'off time'. I wouldn't expect anything to come out this year. In the meantime, they are staying busy pursuing some other personal interests and are busy working/writing/rehearsing and all those things bands do in between albums. But, there are no immediate plans to release an album or tour for the time being."No tour dates or appearances have been scheduled on the relaunched Web site, despite guitarist Al Hammond Jr.’s tour and summer festival appearances in support of his debut solo album, Yours To Keep. Frontman Julian Casablancas recently lent his chops on the new Queens of the Stone Age album, Era Vulgaris, due June 12th.
