WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Prince Wants You Party Like It's 2009: 3 New Albums & No Label

Posted 11 months ago

'MPLSOUND,' 'Lotus Flower', and 'Elixir'. Those are the tentative titles of three new albums Prince has lined up for 2009 release, the latter a collaboration with protégé Bria Valente.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Prince is in final talks with "a major retailer" to distribute physical copies of the music and plans to use a "highly interactive Web site" to sell the music online. "The gatekeepers have to change," he told the LA Times of his distribution plans.

"Lotus Flower" streamed earlier this year on LA indie radio 103.1. It is being tagged as more of a guitar rooted album, while the tentatively titled "MPLSOUND," steers toward more trippy, experimental and electro-flavored pop. Q-Tip even raps on one track and Prince got slap happy morphing things on Pro-tools for the album.

As for the final album, Prince likens his protege Bria Valente's album to Sade. "There's no profanity. It isn't promoting promiscuity."

"There Will Never B Another 1 Like Me" appeared on the currently under construction site mplsound.com back on December 22nd although the site is now defunct as it gets ready for the year of Prince.

Ya know Prince is one of those artists that even if you don't like his music you gotta repect the man for his talent. I like his stuff, especially his guitar based work. His live performances are phenomenal, he rips on the guitar!

Over the years i have noticed that Prince has gained the respect and is credited by a huge number of musicians as being the most talented musician around. I agree-however he seems to share this amazing talent sparingly-still something is better than nothing

He doesn't need a hit. He has such a huge fan base that he can survive off his album sales & royalties alone after 30 plus years in the industry. Saw him live at Coachella & he was fucking INCREDIBLE! So amazing to watch live, I was truly mesmerized.
