Manic Street Preacher Richey Edwards Officially Presumed Dead

Posted about 1 year ago

In February of 1995 Manic Street Preachers guitarist and songwriter Richey Edwards went missing. His car was found abandoned by the Severn Bridge, which connects England and Wales. There have been alleged sightings of Edwards but it is believed that he, 27 at the time, commited suicide. It's been thirteen years and Edwards' family, on Novmber 23rd, 2008, has finally declared him presumed dead.

Normally if a person is missing for seven years that person can be declared dead. However, Edwards' parents waited double that. It is said that Edwards's estate is worth around 380,000 pounds and a lawyer for the family said that this change in his legal status is "an acceptance that his affairs have got to be sorted." The lawyer added, "That's not the same as an acceptance that he is dead."

This announcement follows news that the Manic Street Preachers will go back into the studio and record again using lyrics Edwards left behind.

Wow, they waited thirteen years, it must have been a very long, painful road for his family.

Not knowing what happened to your loved one must be unbearable.

i agree anna. it reminds me of that movie cast away with tom hanks, where helen hunt searches for him for months and then moves on and he comes back to find her remarried with a kid and everything. so weird and a little sad.  i wonder what made richey go off ... crazy if he showed up somewhere in some years.

27 is bad age for rockers -- add another to the dead at 27 list.
