Green Day In The Studio For "American Idiot" Follow-Up

It seems Green Day are giving their side-project Foxboro Hot Tubs a rest for a little while. The band are reportedly back in the studio with producer-turned musician-turned producer Butch Vig working on a follow-up to 2004's American Idiot. It will be the band's eigth studio album. (Has it been five already since Dookie?)
This isn't exactly breaking news considering Vig's former Garbage bandmate Shirley Manson revealed the tidbit of news earlier this month on Last Call With Carson Daly. When asked about a Garbage reunion Manson replied, "I don't know, to be honest. We're sort of doing our different things. I'm doing the TV show, Butch is producing Green Day, so he's busy, so we'll see." Vig is also best known for producing Nirvana's Nevermind.

I don't know if I would want it to be like their earlier CDs or American Idiot. It will surely be nice to have a new CD by Green Day though.
I haven't been keeping up with Green Day for quite some time, but this could be quite cool. Also, that's the first time I've ever seen Billy Joe play a guitar other than his classic green initialized strat.
from what i hear in the video, and it seems quiet premature, i want to say its leaning towards the hyperactivity of American Idiot and won;t stray to far from thier last album. why shoudl it? it was epic and sold millions of copies around the world!!
No matter what they do ... I know I'll love it!! :)
I'm a big fan of Green Day's work up until American Idiot. It was too pop-y for my tastes and I thought they looked ridiculous in all that eyeliner.
Fingers crossed for the next one, though!
Oh and the clips in that video sound more similar to their 'Warning' sound - a good thing!
