Chickenfoot is the working title ex-Van Halen players Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony, along with guitarist Joe Satriani and Red Hot Chili Peppers' drummer Chad Smith are going with for their new supergroup. Formed this past February during a Hagar solo gig, when all the musicians got on stage and performed three tracks - Led Zeppelin's "Rock and Roll" and Traffic's "Dear Mr. Fantasy among them - Chickenfoot went into the studio for five days and recorded nine tracks they hope to put out on their debut album sometime next year.
"We hope to mix the album in January, have it ready for April and then we'll follow it up with a tour," Joe Satriani told Billboard.com. The supergroup plans on heading back to the studio to record more tracks before then but following Satriani's and Hagar's solo tours. The band also says they might comeback with a new name, as Chickenfoot is only a working title.
"We'll draw from funk, blues and experimental," Satriani said of the band's sound. "We know what we want to get out of it. We want passages in songs that develop and we want everyone's personality to be able to come out. So, it's going to be expansive but it's going to be rough."
"When people hear the music, it's Led Zeppelin," Hagar said of the band earlier this year. "It's as good as that. I know that's a mighty bold statement...We could rival Zep."

Okay. Haggar and Anthony were lucky to have such a high profile job for all those years. Well, this should play well in the Red States, to say the least...

I'm excited for this album. I like the work of each of them separately, but I think this will be a trainwreck.
