Alt-indie rockers Elbow were awarded the prestigious Mercury Music Prize, the annual music prize given for the best album from the United Kingdom or Ireland. Elbow, who formed way back in 1990, won for their 2008 release The Seldom Seen Kid. Not only did the album peak at Number 5 on the UK chart and Number 109 in the US, but it was also entirely self-produced, mixed and recorded by Elbow.
Elbow beat out Radiohead, Adele, Burial, British Sea Power, Estelle, the Last Shadow Puppets, among others for the win, which also included a check for £20,000. Spend it wisely boys!

My Trusted MOGs
They're a good band, and deserve a break. I saw them back in '01. They sometimes can come across a bit dour, but all their albums are worth listening to. My pick was Burial, as I thought they had the most fascinating album last year. I can't get into the latest British Sea Power. It's a bit too bombastic like mid-80s U2 and Echo & the Bunnymen for my tastes.
