Alison Krauss Has Won 21 Grammys. You Should Check Out Her New DVD

Posted about 1 year ago

Alison Krauss has 21 Grammys to her name, (fact check here) making her the female with the most Grammy wins ever and tied in seventh for all-around wins. (Madonna and Mariah be pissed!)

Her last solo album A Hundred Miles or More: A Collection was released in 2007, and despite peaking at Number 3 on the U.S. Top Country Albums Chart, the album was overshadowed by Krauss' collaboration with Led Zeppelin crooner Robert Plant, also released later that same year. Bringing more attention to her solo album is the release of the DVD A Hundred Miles or More: Live From The Tracking Room on November 11th. Originally taped for a GAC TV special, the live performance includes duets with James Taylor, Brit rocker John Waite and country star Brad Paisley, who all contributed to the album. Krauss and Paisley duet on "Whiskey Lullaby" which won CMA Song of the Year back in 2005. Gotta hand it to Paisley, who said it best, "When I get to heaven and I hear the angels sing, if they are anything less than Alison Krauss, well, I'm going to have to come back."

Also making guest experiences on the DVD portion are bluegrass musicians Tony Rice, Sam Bush and Stuart Duncan.

She's a national treasure, and still very under rated for the body of work she has.  I mean 21 grammy's should make her a household name!  I'd listen to her over Mariah and Madonna anyday.

I wasn't aware of her existence until Robert Plant helped her "crossover" to the rock audience.

I'm glad they did as she really is exceptional!

She has expanded to wider audiences these days and is considered one of the best in bluegrass. She also took Alan Jackson in a musical direction he hadn't gone before producing Like Red On A Rose and collaborated on many duets.

If you don't know her work and you like a more contemporary bluegrass, you should check out her catalog in or outside of Union Station, folks.
