Flaming Lips' "Do You Realize?" Up For Official State of Oklahoma Rock Song

Posted about 1 year ago

The Flaming Lips are starting voting season off early. The Lips' Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots track "Do You Realize?" has been nominated for Official State of Oklahoma Rock Song. It's up again nine other tracks mostly inspired or written by Oklahomans. Other nominees include Leon Russell's "Home Sweet Oklahoma," All-American Rejects' "Move Along," JJ Cale's "After Midnight," The Call's "Oklahoma," John Moreland & the Black Gold Band "Endless Oklahoma Sky," Leon Russell's "Home Sweet Oklahoma, Elvis Presley's "Heartbreak Hotel," Three Dog Night's "Never Been to Spain," The Ventures' "Walk, Don't Run" and Wanda Jackson's "Let's Have a Party."

The Lips shoudl be worried about the All-American Rejects. They've got the teeny-bop Myspace crowd reach, that can draw thousands to the voting booth. Although you can;t rule out a classic like "JJ Cale's "After Midnight" or Elvis' "Heartbreak Hotel." Leon Russell is pretty bad ass too.

To submit your vote and have a listen to all the tunes head here.

This is about as stupid (along with most of the nominees) as "Born To Run" being New Jersey's state song.  Does anyone read lyrics?  I mean really!

My wife and I were at DFest and there was a petition going around to nominate songs.  I tried to get one of the tracks from the Okie Noodling soundtracks nominated, but this Lips track will most certainly do.  Thank you very kindly for the good infos.  I'll let her know the list has been selected and the other Oklahomans transplanted here, too.

    Mille grazie!
