The Republican National Convention, taking place this week in the Twin Cities, is not going down as peacefully or smoothly for that matter as the Democratic National Convention. And this is surprise to anyone? After all, these people are behind the regime that took us into war with Afghanistan and Iraq.
While the protests following Rage Against The Machine's concert last week during the DNC avoided tear gas, yesterday's attempt at a peaceful protest was marred by tear gas and many arrests (see picture below).

RATM planned on playing a show on the State Capitol lawn as part of the Ripple Effect music festival, but the band reportedly arrived late and didn't have the proper permit. (So what!) After police refused to let the concert go on, RATM didn't exactly back down. Using megaphones Zach de la Rocha and Tom Morello screamed thru a cappella renditions of "Testify" and "Bulls On Parade" to a crowd of 4,000+ chanting "Let Them Play!" You can watch it all here.
By Tuesday night more than 10 people had been arrested adding to the 284 arrests on Monday. Interesting how CNN and MSNBC didn't really include this in their coverage.

Wow. Was there any hope at all that the RNC would go on without a problem? Personally, I think the police should have let them play despite the permit problem to avoid the disaster that followed.

They should have known - a permit is a permit. I liked the acapella version of "Bulls on Parade."
The whole RNC has been some sort of bizarre Orwellian circus. The usual crazies popping up amidst the reasonable protestors, government agencies caught spying on what they referred to as "veagan groups and other left-wing organizations", and pre-emptive raids on people's houses taking advantage of Labor day to hold them an extra day without charges. Salon.com has had pretty good covereage of the whole farce.
I'd have to imagine they knew what Rage Against The Machine were about and weren't having any of it.
So, what do you tolerant, enlightened "liberals" think of Sarah Palin? Hmmmmm?

Be sure to get your "talking points" and smear tactics one-sheet from the powers that be before you answer first ;-)
1.) MOG is hardly the place for politics. It's just worth pointing out that this is part of a larger story rather than something existing in a vacuum
2.)I'd not call myself a liberal, but the use of tolerant and enlightened as slurs worries me a bit. You really should try to relax and be just a tiny bit less defnesive, man.
Dude - chill with yo bad self. I just asked a question . . .
There is PLENTY of room for politic in MOG. Music and politics go hand in hand.
And so you know, Sarah Palin is pitiful. Even yahoo news couldnt resist.

I would also stay away from ambiguous words like "liberal" (check all the dictionary descriptions, not just the basic one).
And I am not sure how
can be a
Oh, right - that "credible and unbiased source" that is "yahoo news" - lol!
Spin, spin, spin,
smear, smear, smear
Politics = the dirtiest of all games.
