The Police played what is being coined as their final gig ever last night at NYC's Madison Garden. And from the photo above..things got a little weird.
Not only did the band give a shout out to famous band trios of all time covering Cream's "Sunshine of Your Love" and then later in the set the Jimi Hendrix Experience's "Purple Haze." The band gave a shout out to NYC's finest with Sting wearing a police uniform and added help from the NYC police marching band during "Message in a Bottle." And cameras followed Sting backstage before the encore and filmed him having his beard shaved off.
The show was the cadence in a reunion tour that brought the trio back to the stage for the first time since 1986. The reunion tour, spanning 15 months and 151 shows, made the record books as the thrid highest grossing earning a cool $358,825,665
The final gig also served as a fundraiser, with tickets only being available to those who donated to public television stations Thirteen/WNET and WLIW21.
"It's been a huge honor to get back with my good friends," Frontman Sting told the crowd at one point. "The real triumph of this tour is that we haven't strangled each other -- that doesn't mean it hadn't crossed my mind."
The trio then walked off the stage as Porky Pig's "That's all, folks!" played in the background.
