MOG MOG

BECAUSE THE WEB MOSTLY SUCKS

Each year the Mercury Prize goes out to the best album in the United Kingdom and Ireland. This year people are saying, "What? No Duffy or Coldplay?" Big names always show up on the list, like this year's nominees Radiohead and Led Zeppelin moaner Robert Plant (for his collaboration with bluegrass siren Alison Krauss). Some of the other twelve not so known artists also show up like folk singers Laura Marling and Rachel Unthank, and The Winterse and the jazz ensemble Portico Quartet. Headed over to Laura Marling's MySpace page cause I never heard of her and the singer-songwriter 's soft tracks, reminiscent of a young Joni Mitchell, were pretty off the hook.

(Laura Marling)

2008 Nationwide Mercury Prize:

Adele - '19'
British Sea Power - 'Do You Like Rock Music?'
Burial - 'Untrue'
Elbow - 'The Seldom Seen Kid'
Estelle - 'Shine'
The Last Shadow Puppets - 'The Age Of The Understatement'
Laura Marling - 'Alas I Cannot Swim'
Neon Neon - 'Stainless Style'
Portico Quartet - 'Knee-Deep In The North Sea'
Robert Plant And Alison Krauss – 'Raising Sand'
Radiohead - 'In Rainbows'
Rachel Unthank And The Winterset – 'The Bairns'

Winners will be announced during a September 9th award show in London. Who would ya pick?

I'd vote for Elbow - their best album yet and some great live shows this year qualify them for a prize.  It's about time !
