There's nothing like starting Tuesday off with a multiple choice question. Which one of the following did Negativland NOT chop and abuse on their new album, Thigmotactic, out today (July 15th.)
a) dream journals
b) advertisements
c) poems
d) Zip-A-Dee-Do-Dah bird chirps
e) National Geogrphic speeches
f) automatic writings
g) stream of consciousness
While I hold that answer close to me, what I can tell you is that for the first time in their 28-year long career the San Francisco based experimental outfit are finally releasing an album of songs you can sing-a-long to. Known for chopping and distorting their tunes with weird tidbits of humanity, Negativland's Thigmotactic, 15 tracks and two instrumentals, is considered to be the group's first song-based album. Check out the track "Richard Nixon Died Today" (a hands down sing-a-long) here. And if you really feel like getting out there and using your own chops to some Negativland, the act's Mark Hosler, responsible for penning most of Thigmotactic, will be out east all week performing and even spreading his thoughts on "Culture Jamming" at the Hackers of Planet Earth (H.O.P.E.) Conference in New York City.
Mark Hosler/Negativland speaks to the public:
7/17: Wham City's Whartscape, Baltimore, MD
7/20: H.O.P.E. (Hackers of Planet Earth) conference, New York, NY

I will go home and teach my children the words to "Richard Nixon Died Today". Thanks!
Oh cool. I'm ready for a new album. It's funny I just watched their DVD "Our Favorite Things" this weekend and my wife asked me if they ever make any actual songs. I said yes but what a delight to see a whole album of nothing but songs. Maybe I can trick her into listening to the new one.
