Beatles News: iPod, Sgt. Peppers Drum Skin & More

Posted about 1 year ago

Tagged as the "world's most famous drum skin," the drum skin featured on the cover of the Beatles' Sgt Peppers album sold for $1.1 million, or the price of a really nice house. Also selling for the price of nice house ($834,000,) were handwritten John Lennon lyrics for "Give Peace a Chance."

According to auctioneer Christie's the lyrics were given to comedy writer Gail Renard, who in 1969, at the age of 16, sneaked into Lennon's and Yoko Ono's "Bed-In" at Montreal's Queen Elizabeth Hotel. Along with some other things Lennon gave Renard the lyrics, telling her: "One day they will be worth something."

While the lyrics and drum skin might have slipped through Moggers fingers there's still a chance to get one of "ten limited edition Beatles iPods.":http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/index.php/2008/07/11/beatles-news-beatles-ipod-coming-sgt-pepper-drum-grabs-million-dollar-bid-at-auction/ Having retained exclusive rights from Apple Records, department chain Bloomingdale's will "launch a Beatles collection":http://www.fashionweekdaily.com/parties/fullstory.sps?inewsid=6613562 that includes album covers, photographs, posters reconstructed by designers Marc Jacobs, John Varvartos and more on clothing for Holiday 2008 shopping season. In addition to the clothes, and the really-hard-to-get iPod, box sets will also be sold. Talk about some good stocking stuffers.

the board used to record peppers would be kool to own, but that would be as big as a house.

That is, of course the drum cover on which, if you place a flat-sided mirror directly across the centre line, "proves" that Paul McCartney is dead.

How do you mean that Sir Paul is dead?

And I rather like that iPod, even if it is just a color change for the control panel.

Mind you, on reading it you might come to the view that some, if not all of the posters, need to have their medication increased
