The Strokes Check Into Side-Project Central, But Getting Back Together In Early 2009 !!!

Posted about 1 year ago

Be still my joyous, beating heart! The Strokes are returning in 2009! For three weeks the information has quietly idled on the rockers Web site. Realizing the looming question in some people's minds, the band posted this:

QUESTION: When are the Strokes coming back?

ANSWER: The guys are set to get together and get back at it early 2009.

Guitarist Al Hammond Jr, whose been out and about with arm candy/model Agyness Deyn, supporting his sophomore album ¿Cómo Te Llama?, even re-confirmed the news with Teletext saying, "If we don't make a Strokes record before [the end of 2009], people will think that's the end of us. Nothing's set, but we're definitely figuring out something to do for 2009." Fingers crossed that N.E.R.D. frontman/producer Pharrell Williams can keep the first part of 2009 free.

While Hammond Jr. prances around with models and Strokes frontman Julian Casablances makes headlines with his Converse, the other Strokes dudes are keeping busy too. Drummer Fabrizio Moretti has launched a solo side project dubbed Little Joy, named after an L.A.'s Echo Park bar he likes to hang at, with pal Rodrigo Aramante of Los Hermanos fame and Fab's girlfriend that goes by the very cool name of Binki Shapiro. A Little Joy release will come sometime later this fall on Rough Trade Records.

And while we're on the topic of Strokes side-projects bassist Nickolai Fraiture will release his debut Nickel Eye (clever) debut Time Of The Assasins ...soon. Two tracks can be heard tuning into Mark Ronson's Authentic Shit show on East Village Radio. At 1hr and 19mins the songs "Brandy Of The Damned" and "Dying Star" sneak in with an interview with Nickel Eye (now you get the cleverness, don't you.)

I leave you with this new Al Hammond Jr video for ¿Cómo Te Llama?'s "GfC":

P.S. Only 174 days left till 2009, but it's not like I'm a crazy fan or something.

This IS good news. Although I'm not wild about the prospect of Pharrell producing them. I hope they don't take long to get an album out.

Call me a supsicious mind, but I am very suspicious about Pharrell. It's suspicious and we might get a suspicious album out of this.

    Suspiciously yours,

You should check out The Horror The Horror. Swedish band got a lot of shit for sound too Strokesy, but in this context that can be an asset. I think they're awesome, and their two albums would scratch your itch well before '09.

You can't beat Is This It, but I don't see it as a contest. More like, you crave a certain flavor, and this is a tasty supplement. One of my favorite tracks is "Sound Of Sirens." Check that one out, last selection on their Myspace player. Found this video below that's pretty cool too. To be honest, both albums I think are more consistent than the last two Strokes discs, definitely good enough not to dismiss based on a couple soundbytes.

Oh I liked it very much! Great album, with just a couple so-so cuts, I was just was really blown away by THTH debut, relatively. Al's video is nice, and look forward to more Strokes.
