Secret Machines Psychedelia Coming Back At You This Fall

Posted about 1 year ago

The Secret Machines, once pegged the next Pink Floyd (by me) after the release of the continously-play-from-start-to-finish Now Here Is Nowhere, and then screwed that up with the follow-up of the more commercial and pop-driven Ten Silver Drops have got some new album news.

TSM, now drummer Josh Garza, multi-instrumentalist Brandon Curtis and new guitarist Phil Karnats, who replaced Curtis' little brother Benjamin, has left Warner/Reprise (dropped?) and signed with World's Fair, the home of the Flaming Lips, Dandy Warhols and Sharon Jones & Dap Kings. With their major label obligations aside the band plan on self-releasing their third and self-titled studio album this October, while World's Fair will helm all day-to-day label services

Secret Machines will be a nine song effort. The album was recorded at Brooklyn's Magic Shop and mixed at Manhatten's Electric Lady Studios with Drops' engineer Brandon Mason. Here, at MOG we've been on top of this shit for awile and were there to witness these songs at their "world premiere" (click here for footage.)

The songs -- "Atomic Heels" "Like I Can," "Dreaming of Dreaming," "The Fire is Waiting," "Now Your Gone," "Last Believer Drop Dead," and "Daylight" -- are a much darker return to the band's Now Here is Nowhere roots. You can check them out when TSM go on tour this summer, supporting Coheed and Cambria and Stone Temple Pilots.

Hey, they're coming to Orlando! That's where I saw OneRepublic! I haven't really heard of this band, though, so I'll sample their tuff and see if I like it.

Saw The Suckass Machines with Coheed at the HOB in Dallas Aug.1, and they were so bad that half of the audience were in the lobby, suffering silently from the 'slit your wrists and hang yourself' rhythms of this ridiculously overrated, should be an opening act at a funeral home for the deaf, goofy band ever. Who is the promoter on this tour, because he/she should be fired and beaten with a stick. I think this machine is better left a secret....forever!
