Which Version Of Metallica's "Death Magnetic" Would You Buy?

Posted about 1 year ago

This isn't any new news but I saw that it was missing from the mog-o-shpere and I wanted some input.

Since May Metallica have been airing Death Magnetic studio footage via their subscriber site MissionMetallica.com. Still no specific September release date has been given for the Rick Rubin-produced album, but Metallica has revealed (and this is what was missing from the mog-o-sphere) that it will be coughing up the first in five years in three different versions.

The basic virtually delivers a digital version of the new album, two full live shows form this summer (Leeds/Ozzfest/Bonnaroo festivals), 250 photos and additional video footage for $25 on the midnight of the release date. For $33 you get everything mentioned above plus a physical copy of Death Magnetic. At $125 you get everything above, plus vinyl -- 5 180-gram LP box w/5 individual sleeves -- and a limited-edition Metallica lithograph.

Now the boys have also added the The Box Magnetic (Death in a Coffin) for all the "collector types out there." "Death Magnetic" will come in a special edition box -- coffin box. In it: a CD with the demos of the songs, a DVD of even more "making of the album" footage not seen on Mission: Metallica, a t-shirt, a flag, guitar picks, fold out poster, and a collector's credit card embossed with a code to redeem a free download of a special European show happening in September. This will cost you YOUR LIFE. I kid. While no price has been revealed it's safe to say it will cost evenmore than the $125 offer.

So which one would you buy? $125 to stiff for the deluxe?

Yeah I think 125 is a bit expensive, I'd go for the 33 dollar one..

You couldn't pay me enough to buy anything from Metallica - but I've never been a fan.

125 is a tad overstepping - no doubt about it, but I am sure the diehard fans will consider it money well spent.

*Gick* *Gick* <retch> - That's the sounds of me trying to swallow that $125-er.  I'd say I'd go with the $33 version.  I'm excited about the album, nonetheless.

Yowser, so 25 bones is the cheapest route? Looks like I'll opt for the russian mp3 sites if anything. That's crazy money. These guys need to wake up and realize that they have been making terrible music longer than they made good music. I was a huge fan growing up, but they lost me after Black. I admit I'm a bit curious, but not expecting anything. They will get my money if they tour the Boston area anytime soon though.
