While they fight for artistic integrity and fall more and more into 1990's obscurity, the Smashing Pumpkins have announced that they will be heading out on a intimate August run and a not so intimate 20th Anniversary tour in November. The tours will sort of serve as a warm-up to that Gish tour everyone has been hoping for, which has now been pushed back to early 2009.
While the intimate August run "will be for fun" according to the band, November's shows will hit larger venues and "focus on the band's history, legacy, and accomplishments over their career." Corgan promises they "will be magical." Only New York, Chicago, L.A. are confirmed for November so far.
Writing on the Smashing Pumpkins Web site, Corgan had this to say:
The August tour is going to be a blast... Expect a very loud and raucous show from us...and we are very, very happy to know we will finally be playing our own shows come November in New York, L.A., and Chicago... The 20th Anniversary shows will be magical... We are already working on lots of surprises."
Surprises? Like that early 1990's lineup?

I dont know, I think I would enjoy seeing them one more time
Has it been that long for the Smashing Pumpkins? Geeze.. where does the time go? Would love to see that.
Smashing Pumpkins? Don't you mean the Billy Corgan Experience?
MIke, you nailed it. I totally had a similar thought when i was trying to recover a JPEG of the band to go with this post. They were all mugs of the band with Iha and D'arcy and etc. I was like, "Sheesh...I guess I just should type in Billy Corgan cause that's pretty safe."
I see why you commented on my SP post now, haha. I do hope the original lineup materializes, that would be so cool, although they are pretty awesome in their new incarnation.
Me too. Hey, you know, he used to be a little boy!
Saw the pumpkins in 95 and they were amazing. Saw 'them' again this year and they were terrible. I've lost pretty much all respect for BC. If he toured again - I wouldn't go.
That's a bummer TGP.
i also saw the pumpkins this year in wellington and they rocked. they played a real mixed set and didn't just try to play a greatest hits show either which i thought was a good thing. i was very impressed. yes it may well be the billy corgan show but to be honest hasn't it always? he has always done pretty much everything when it comes to the pumpkins and it has worked out pretty well. if they came around again i would be there without hesitation.
