Dad Talked Up Amy Winehouse's Emphysema

Yesterday as I was sharing Amy Winehouse's latest predicament (that the singer has emphysema) with the MOG world two things came across my mind. 1) How the hell does a 24 year-old get emphysema? It seemed physically impossible, since most people who get the lung disease are old and have smoked their entire life. And 2)That father of her's, Mitch, sure likes to talk to the media. This 2nd thought spawned off two other thoughts: 2a) He's getting majorly paid for coughing up (no emphysema pun intended) info on his f'ed up daughter. 2b) This guy, Mitch, has no idea what he is talking about.
It turns out that 2b is shaping up to be true to form. A spokesperson for Winehouse today corrected Mitch Winehouse's statements about his daughter's hospitalization.
"[Amy Winehouse] is not diagnosed with full-blown emphysema, but instead has early signs of what could lead to emphysema," Tracey Miller, Winehouse's U.S.-based PR lady told the AP.
The dad apparently talked up the story because he doesn't have much of a medical background, or maybe the emphysema tip paid out more. "Amy really hasn't got emphysema," he later corrected in a BBC Radio 1 interview. "There's traces of emphysema. Obviously, if she doesn't quit smoking, it's going to get worse, like everyone else ... with patience her lungs will recover completely."
Moral of the story: don't believe what anyone says.
