The Verve's New Album Dubbed "Forth;" Listen To New Single "Love Is Noise"

Posted about 1 year ago

Brit-pop act the Verve will release their first album in eleven years this August. The band disbanded after making 1997's Urban Hymans, best known for the big sound of "Bittersweet Symphony" and frontman Richard Ashcroft recorded three solo albums.

The Verve's new album Forth hits the U.S. on August 18th and everywhere else the day before. Tha album's first single "Love Is Noise" is currently streaming on the band's MySpace Page.

Upon hearing the first two notes of the song I immediately thought to myself...I bet these guys wish they were as huge as Coldplay. "Love Is Noise" is really busy but sorta sounds like something the Goo Goo Dolls or Matchbox TWenty could have put out five years ago. Thoughts?

The Verve "Forth" Tracklisting:

1. Sit And Wonder
2. Love Is Noise
3. Rather Be
4. Judas
5. Numbness
6. I See Houses
7. Noise Epic
8. Valium Skies
9. Columbo
10. Appalachian Springs

Thnx for the info. Is it my idea, or did they add more electronic features?

This is really disappointing - nice to hear Ashcroft's world weary vocals again, but you can hardly make out Nick McCabe's guitar behind the "oh-oh" vocal samples.  Progressing your music is great and all, but I think we will just have to revere The Verve for those amazing first two albums.

Sounds like The Verve to me. I think this is pretty cool.

Alright, I am as hardcore a Verve fan as there could ever be. Having said that it took me a while to warm up to Love Is Noise in concert before it was released as a polished recording. Worse, I saw them play at the WaMu Theatre at MSG in NYC and the acoustics of that hall were awful for their big sound. Nevertheless, the shows were great. I've listened to Love Is Noise now on MP3 (192kbps) practically non-stop (except for sleeping) for a day. I have never done this with any Verve song. The song gives me chills. Have you seen the interview with Nick McCabe from Coachella? The man speaks and says it's their best record and at one point he says "yeah, it's really that good". Prepare for greatness on a whole new scale! Rock is the new religion. Ashcroft is the shaman. It's strange, even Urban Hymns was underappreciated by me. It brought me to tears recently, it was that beautiful. Love Is Noise is already a classic. I can't wait for the B-sides and the album + tour!!!

For the record, I'm the former website author of The Verve Sanctuary.  I have been very pleased that over the years they have managed to give my generation a variety of music to appreciate while still maintaining a vibe that is distinct and stylish without being formulaic.  Oh, but I happen to be one of those U2 fans who thinks Zooropa is one of their best albums.  ;-p

I am with you with U2 and Zooropa. I'm not saying its the best, but its up there...with LEmon, Babyface, NUmb and Stay. (listening to it now on iTunes). anyway. i think i love that album bc it makes me remember the timeframe of when it came out. the verve track ... i also agree it takes some gettng use to. i need to see them live.

I gotta admit I was wrong about Love Is Noise, and the Forth album in general - it did take a long time to grow on me, but I think it's a really strong album - better than Urban Hymns in fact.  I like the way Ashcroft sounds older and more jaded than the sky-reaching space cadet that he used to be.  This will definitely be in my top albums of the year.
