WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Go To A Pearl Jam Show, Download The Bootleg Later

Posted about 1 year ago
Pearl Jam are no stranger to the bootleg concept. Back in 2000 the band began releasing official bootlegs of their live shows and have sold more than 3.5 million of the suckers (says Billboard.com).Now PJ will release burn-to-order CDs of each live show of their 2008 summer run in MP3 and FLAC formats, exclusively via Pearl Jam’s fan club, Ten Club, at www.pearljam.com. The digital bootlegs, available two weeks after each show, will not be encripted with DRM (Digital Rights Management) allowing the tracks to be freely burned, transfered to MP3 players, or played from the hard drive. Each MP3 bootleg/show will only cost $9.99, while the FLAC version will go for $14.99.Also new for PJ's 2008 summer: free mobile downloads of three tracks from each show. The three crowd pleasers will be mixed in real-time and then released on Verizon Wireless’ V CAST Music service or www.pearljamconcerts.com. And get this the first track will be FREE, while the additional two will be available for purchase. Each track will be available as a ringtone.“We have learned from our younger fans, more and more listeners are accessing their music through their mobile phones.” Ten Club Manager Tim Bierman said in a statement. “Since Verizon Wireless and V CAST are at the forefront of that technology, this collaboration makes perfect sense to us. With our proven track record of delivering high quality bootleg downloads and CDs, we feel this new approach will not only benefit our fans, but provide an exciting opportunity to share Pearl Jam’sPJ's tour kicks off today, June 11th, in West Palm Beach and wraps up on June 30th in Boston.

  2. contrabandwidth says What a great idea. I would pay for a soundboard recording of a show I attended, sure beats investing in all the equipment to do it myself for free, which really wouldn't be free,

  3. Jo says I love this concept, and was privileged to experience it in person a couple of years ago at a Madness gig - after the gig we bought the recording of the actual show we'd just witnessed - imagine driving home while reliving the whole thing in your car... brilliant!

  7. getafade says It's good to see bands embracing technology rather than shunning it. The entire music industry is changing and if you don't have good ideas on how to use technology to make money with your music you're going to end up like Metallica and alienate your fans. I do think the prices are a bit steep for these discs, but I applaud them anyway.
