Last week news hit that Phish frontman Trey Anastasio would give his left nut to play "You Enjoy Myself," one of the jam band's epic 10 minute+ noodlers again. This week it seems Anastasio is one step closer to making his dream come true.
Anastasio and jam band's lyricist Tom Marshall have been working together at the Phish frontman’s personal Rubber Jungle studios in Saratoga Springs, New York “for the past four months,” according to a "Pop Matters interview with Marshall.":http://www.popmatters.com/pm/news/article/59406/phish-lyricist-in-stud “I think Phish is his baby,” claimed Marshall following Dave Matthews Band’s Tuesday concert at Camden’s Susquehanna Bank Center. “It’s not like there are people preventing it from coming back, it’s just that the landscape has to be right for it to come back.”It hasn't exactly been all roses lately. Anastasio has had some major run-ins with enforcement. He received three years probation and served a drug treatment program after being arrested in Whitehall, New York back in December 2006 with meds prescribed to another person, including hydrocodone, Percocet and Xanax.“As one of his close friends, I’ll say he’s extremely happy," Marshall says of Anastasio. "I have the old Trey back, which is incredible.""We’re on our fourteenth, fifteenth song in like two months. We’re extremely productive and got the drive again."“(Trey) is just excited and happy to be done with his legal problems. It’s almost like we’re in 8th grade again.” (Marshall and Anastasio met while attending the Princeton Day School in New Jersey.)The other Phish members haven't joined the picture yet. Marshall will usually play the drums while Anastasio commands the bass and guitar during the rehearsals and writing sessions. "...We work best when there are no distractions. When we write, we write together. What happens with songs after that is up to Trey, really. Reforming something like (Phish) has so many pieces, it’s a very complex, three-dimensional, four-dimensional, jigsaw puzzle. No one wants Phish back more than Trey.” “I’ve always been hopeful in expecting a Phish [reunion],” continued Marshall. “I think if the stars align and everything works out there will be [a reunion].” I don’t think they will ever be a huge touring band.” Don't know if Phish is anything BUT a touring band, but whatever they give I'll take.

I wish bands actually knew how to retire these days. Give it up, the jam scene is dead. They would only be caricatures of themselves. But I would probably still go.
would love to get that crazy bad vision of trey's breakdown of coventry out of my mouth
sigh....yeah....me too. I have the recordings and some of it is just plain awful. but the experience of being there was worth it.
