WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Lou Reed Gets His Own (Satellite) Radio Show

Posted about 1 year ago
I wonder how much SIRIUS satellite is paying Lou Reed for the radio show he will broadcast over the satellite radio network. Beginning this Saturday evening, May 17th, at 6 PM, (mark you calendars) for the premier of Reed's radio show. It will broadcast over channel 70 for "Lou Reed's New York Shuffle." Ummm...they couldn't think of a more clever title?Helping Reed with the music selection will be producer Hal Willner."For years," Reed said in a statement, "I've always been a fan of eclectic radio, such as FM radio in the past when you could hear stations play widely divergent music, ranging from rock to country to jazz to opera. I loved the days when DJs who did their own programming set the bar high. I learned from these DJs and it's a delight, with my friend Hal Willner, to do this type of radio today on SIRIUS. We will try to bring SIRIUS' listeners audio from all parts of the world that covers the whole musical spectrum." Hmmm... "ranging from rock to country to jazz to opera."? I think I might have to invest. Curious what is Reed's idea of a "musical spectrum?"

  2. BerkeleyBob says Yeah, might budge me off the "chill" channel (30) on Sirius when in the car and not listening to the local college station, the mighty KALX (90.7 and on net, if you want to check it out). I bet Lou's show will be as entertaining and enlightening as Dylan's, which has been good enough to result in some clandestine CD circulation. BerkeleyBob
