Trent Reznor would like you to know that "This one's on me." No, he isn't buying you a round of Cinco De Mayo margaritas (bummer), instead the Nine Inch Nails frontman is giving away the band's new album The Slip for free. So, now you'll have more money for gas. The Slip is available right now as a free download at NIN.com. The band is looking to release a physical CD and vinyl in July. The queer thing about the press release was the line that read:"The Slip" marks the first time Nine Inch Nails--or any artist of NIN's stature--has made its new album available completely and exclusively for free as a DRM-free digital download. I mean...it's great that Reznor is offering up the complete multi-track files to the album for anyone to remix, but, I mean, why does this guy need all this validation. I really think Radiohead kicked NIN's ass with the name-your-own-price sales tactic. It seems Reznor wants all the credit for giving away music that they got. He's bashed them in the past, Sturgell even pointed it out in "this post.":http://mog.com/Sturgell/blog_post/149707Anyone else agree? Any NIN fans out there who could explain the "or any artist of NIN's stature" statement. Or maybe they are two complete different causes.
