The Cure Releasing New Singles Each Month Before 13th Album Drops

It seems the Cure are taking every precaution to unjinx the release of their 13th studio album. Fear of the number 13 is common news for airports and hotels, with gate 13 or floor 13 being omitted from many.

But the Cure are looking "triskaidekaphobia":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triskaidekaphobia in the eye and releasing four A & B side singles each month up, the first on May 13th, up until the the release of their as yet untitled thirteenth studio album on September 13th. That's a lot of 13s.

The May 13th single, 'The Only One,' includes the b-side 'NY Trip'. And for those quick folks out there, yup, you guessed it the second single will be out June 13th. Titled 'Freakshow' it includes the b-side 'All Kinds Of Stuff'.The b-sides not will appear on the album. And more singles will be released on July 13th and August 13th. The Cure kick off their U.S. tour on May 9th at the Patriot Center in Washington DC. Universalis says ° ° ° Terrible curse for those hit by a fright of the # thirteen. Well what's good for the Cure is they can keep the attention focused on them for quite some time at a low cost :)) About the number 13 for myself, i just cannot be afraid of it, 'cos i was born on a 13th... Charley Rogulewski says I think i actually have flown on friday the 13th before, like many people out there I'm sure, and it went well. so i think it's all what you make of it. but i mean if it was between the number 14 and 13 i think my vote would be for 14. ya know?

mocha louder says 13, 23, 69 - all just numbers - it's what you place on them that gives them their power. i think the whole 13 thing is a good idea for the cure - keeps them still with a foot in the spooky side - so you know they aren't all happy little pop goths. i remember when Psychic TV did their series of releases - they were going to release 23 albums - all based on the # 23 (a big number for many - see william s burroughs) - don't know if they ever made it... don't think so. back to the cure - i know many people didn't really appreciate the wild mood swings album - but i find it, well... fun - and the song "The 13th" is pretty sweet - horns and everything. i'm gonna be seeing the concert here at the Hollywood Bowl - so - yeah - looking forward to hearing some new stuff.

Anna says Never understood superstition (unless we are talking about the song) myself. I can only explain it by speculating that people, desperate from life's randomness, created it in order to feel like they can actually predict the time of bad incidents and prevent them. Feel like they have some sort of control and are able to protect. So I don't even notice when it's the 13th etc. I will notice it however in those coming months, but only 'cause I'll be looking for my cure ;)
