My Morning Jacket have leaked their Evil Urges title-track to fans via their newsletter. On the jingle Jim James takes his voice to a new level, offering a high-pitched sexy-time screech that's very R&B and reminiscent of Lenny Kravitz' 1992 Mama Said track "It Ain't Over 'Til It's Over." (No? Listen above and let me know what you think.)"The world today is such a confused place. Things that people think are good values are obviously twisted," MMJ frontman Jim James rationalizes in a statement about the new album. "But there are other things considered evil that obviously aren't. There is real evil out there, but "Evil Urges" is about how all of these things that you've been told are evil really aren't, unless they're actually hurting something or somebody." While Evil Urges, the Jacket's 5th studio album doesn't hit us till June 10th, the band will treat everyone with an appearance on Saturday Night Live May 10th. The band are also lining up some U.S. concert dates in August. MMJ will be joined by the Black Keys on August 24th, when they headline the Red Rocks Amphitheatre just outside Denver, Colorado."Evil Urges" liveNo songs off "Evil Urges" (I saw MMJ live at SXSW this past March) have hit me hard, like "Gideon" did when I first heard the Z track. Do you think Evil Urges will live up to Z's success?

in other news, someone else has leaked the whole album.
i'm not a MMJ fan, in fact i haven't really ever listened to them. but from what I've heard the concensus seems to be that this is a poor album compared to their others. _shrug_

Seen the Jacket many times, and I encourage you to do so as well. Evil Urges is crawling into a funky soul laden new space for the band - not new if you've heard them cover Prince or Lionel Ritchie. A departure from the head poppin' flying V onslaught that makes them the best live band we done got? No freaking way. Listen to that Zep-laced crescendo. Look up "Aluminum Park" from their SXSW gig - explosive. Look up Thank You Too - Toussaint, Cooke? This is rich stuff folks. It will have you crying on the inside until your head pops off ten minutes later. It's been said, and I would concur, that those who are praying for one last glimpse of LZ should just see the Jacket. Not that MMJ is playing in their shadow, but holy hell the boys bring something so strong that you can only compare it to the primal strength of LZ. James will get a lot of deserved props this year, finally, but the other guys are masters too. There's not a better rock drummer than Patrick H. - Questlove, meet Beavis, Butthead, and Bonham.

They're on the cover of the May edition of Spin magazine. But this is the first song I've heard by them, even though I've seen their name alot in the music rags for years. But I have to say this song doesn't do much to compel me to seek them out to listen to them more imho.

This song blows, Somebody will probably buy this CD and like it though. Do these guys know what a "chorus" is.This band is heralded as being some innovative group but I never hear a chorus. A&R anyone?
