Lollapalooza does look nice, but how about Sasquatch! too: http://sasquatchfestival.com/2008/. The fact that it's at the Gorge bumps it up a couple pegs, and the lineup is amazing:

REM, Modest Mouse, MIA, The New Pornos, The National, Beirut, Fleet Foxes, Okkervil River, The Whigs, Grand Archives, Throw Me The Statue, David Bazan, Joshua Morrison, The Cure, DCFC, Michael Franti, Cold War Kids, Blue Scholars, Tegan & Sara, Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks, The Kooks, Rogue Wave, What Made Milwaukee Famous, Sera Cahoone, The Flaming Lips, The Mars Volta, Flight of the Conchords, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Built To Spill, Matt Costa, The Hives, Battles, Ghostland Observatory, Pela, the Cave Singers, and a shitload of Comedians!

Needs more hip-hop, but it's damn good I think...

You know what I think..is they need to get ALL of these shows together and make an even BIGGER one. Ugh, can't decide although I can narrow it down to 2. Lollapalooza or Outside Lands.

Used to go to Lollapalooza every year until they moved it to Chicago only....wins this year hands down, IMO! That Mission Of Burma reunion at Pitchfork is kinda appealing though...

Used to love Coachella. Went every year in fact. It was amazing for seeing tons of new up and coming alternative/indie acts all in one place, and for giving a big stage to a great band like Yeah Yeah Yeahs who don't get the exposure they deserve.

I'm not going this year, however. Maybe if someone tells me how Jack Johnson classifies as "Alternative Rock" or "Modern Rock" I'll reconsider, but no one has even come close yet...

I consider Jack Johnson alternative....if being an alternative to GOOD music counts lol! God, how did he get so popular....

None of the above. I'd go to NEARfest (that's a link, in case inquiring minds want to know). It's the North East Art Rock festival, and is not only smaller, but geared more towards the progressive side of things.

I dunno, something about Bonnaroo this year has got me all reved up, although ACL is usually my favorite. I think the Web site looks like Candyland or something out of a Japanimation world...and that luring me. Check it: http://www.bonnaroo.com/

Well if money was no object - the GOOD LIFE BACK FORTY package at Rothbury ( http://rothburylodging.baselineticketing.com/choose.php?a=1&lid=20908&eid=25669 ) looks close to home and mighty comfy - and add to the list of bands Driveby-Truckers and Dresden Dolls too - and northern Michigan is beautiful

Is it just me or is Jack Johnson working every festival?

I guess I'm in the minority here, but he doesn't bother me. He's pretty innocuous, IMO, but I've only heard probably six of his songs.

Pitchfork Music Festival - dirt cheap? PE playing? Dinosaur Jr playing TWICE? ;) Where do I sign up? Either that, or ACL. But looking at all these festivals, I don't know how you could go wrong with any of them.

Actually you didn't list the music festival that's tops on my list - Mountain Jam - May 29 - June 1 (Hunter Mtn, NY).

Lineup includes Gov't Mule, Bob Weir & RatDog, Grace Potter & Nocturnals, Drive by Truckers, Ray LaMontagne and many others.

Debi I actually went to Mountain Jam last year, and it rained..:( but it was still pretty fun!

What about SUMMERFEST ? That's a helerva good festival - largest in the US infact... needs to be added to the list.

Coachella is where I'll be this year - maybe all points west... not sure yet. Dying to get to Bonnaroo one of these years & also Sasquatch would be sweet.

Coach gets my vote for this year as Summerfest ain't up here... if I could write in on my ballot - Summerfest would probably take top honors only for sheer volume & the quality is pretty decent as well. 11 days 13 stages... great beer & deep fried cheese curds, hot dang it's a good time.
