American Idol Introduces New Postage Stamps

Posted about 1 year ago
Got a letter to send to grandma? Stamp is with an American Idol season four winner Carrie Underwood stamp. That’s right, competing with the Liberty Bell and American Flag for that $0.41 ($0.42 as of May 12th) corner space is a new set of American Idol stamps. The nostalgia of those iconic dead actors and Elvis has apparently worn of. Now, the six Idols – Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia, Taylor Hicks and Jordin Sparks -- along with this year's winner, will be each honored with 100,000 20-stamp sheets with all proceeds going to the “Idol Gives Back” charity. But you won’t find these whippersnappers at the post office. The charity U.S. postage stamps featuring the show's winners will only be available at PhotoStamps (photo.stamps.com), a product of Stamps.com, which offers USPS-approved, Internet-based postage services. While a regular sheet of stamps costs $7 ($8.40 as of May 12th), the Idol stamp sheets will cost $19.99. If these stamps sell out, the charity would make $7 million, the show’s executive producer Nigel Lythgoe claims.Adds Lythgoe, the stamps are "a great idea, especially for philatelists. I think it's a little bit iconic, too. It's great for Idol."What’s next a day off for National American Idol day?

  1. waydutch says Did you know these guys, photo.stampscom (or some other outfit like them) will print most anything on an official stamp for you. So, you can get say like your engagement picture on stamps to send out your wedding invites with or whatever. Seems like they're donating most of their usual mark-up to the charity - but maybe also as a promotion of their service as well. . I alway have a hard time giving to charity's named after businesses, (i.e. Ronald McDonald House, American Idol Gives Back). If they got their name on it, why we suppose to be making the contribution to their promotion?

  2. Charley Rogulewski says I didn't know that but have def. gotten a wedding invite with the couple's cheek-to-cheek and scratched my head asking "How did they do that?" This whole concept gives me a lucrative idea. ... I'm grabbing my camera and heading out to the NYC streets to take pix of homeless people. All proceed from the stamps I make out of these shots will go towards the "Keep Charley Off The Streets" fund.

  3. Cinful says They also have programs you can buy so you can print your own picture stamps ... they're pretty cool. The Cancer society does a special stamp each year and charges extra to go to their cause. But I'm not into the stamp thing, so I just donate directly to my causes. :)
