MySpace Partners Up With The Major Music Companies For MySpace Music

Posted about 1 year ago
MySpace is uniting the music industry with a new joint venture with Vivendi's Universal Music Group, Sony BMG Music Entertainment and Warner Music Group called MySpace Music. The three major music companies will be minority stake holders in the new company. It will stream free music audio and video, but it will no doubt be saturated in advertising. MySpace Music will also include MP3 downloads(for a fee), ringtones, artist ticket sales and merchandise.Watch out Live Nation.

  4. Wanbli says so ironic that MySpace started as a community for independent musicians to share their music - now it is a schill for the labels. I hate Fox, Rupert Murdoch and MySpace Everytime you visit a MySpace page, you support the multinational, mega corporation that supports and pushes propaganda. Friends Don't Let Friends Use MySpace!

  8. sonical says Don't worry... this venuture is going to become one big clusterf*ck. Way too many agendas and internal issues. It will survive but never be a vibrant community like MOG. As for advertising to support it, that's a label effort that I actually think makes sense. People can get the music they like without paying. That's a pretty tough thing to beat. Advertising seems free and hopefully will be able to give labels some revenue so they don't close down. Like them or not, if we didn't have labels we wouldn't have the music we do today. Even from independent artists who differentiate themselves by being Indie. Though I'm the biggest fan of what Radiohead and Trent Reznor are doing. When you get big you don't need labels but the smaller bands can be helped by them as well as good mgt companies.
