Dr. Pepper is attempting to get out of Axl Rose what Guns N' Roses fans have been waiting almost two decades for --
Chinese Democracy. The soft drink company is "begging" Axl Rose to finally release his 17-year-in-the-making belabored masterpiece by the end of this year. Dr. Pepper will give "everyone in America, except estranged GNR guitarists Slash and Buckethead," a free can of Dr Pepper if the album ships in 2008.(No, I am not kidding.) "It took a little patience for us to perfect Dr Pepper's special mix of 23 ingredients, so we completely understand and empathize with Axl's question for the perfect album," a company spokesperson said in a statement. In response to "the Dr. Pepper press release,":http://pressreleasetosaveworld.blogspot.com/ which is pretty clever renegade marketing, Axl Rose released the following statement to fans.
"We are surprised and very happy to have the support of Dr Pepper with our album "Chinese Democracy," as for us, this came totally out of the blue. If there is any involvement with this promotion by our record company or others, we are unaware of such at this time. And as some of Buckethead's performances are on our album, I'll share my Dr Pepper with him.Axl RoseThe $13 million album and follow-up to 1991's
Use Your Illusion I and
Use Your Illusion II was last scheduled for release in 2007. Given the time it's taken to make
Chinese Democracy, we hope Rose is smart and releases it via the band's Web site. Head to Dr. Pepper's blog "Chinese Democracy When?":http://www.chinesedemocracywhen.blogspot.com/ to learn more about "one beverage's journey to convince Axl Rose that this is the year to deliver the greatest album known to all things."Smart marketing? Or cheap ply? Do you even about the release of
Chinese Democracy anymore?
