Must Read: Free Dr. Pepper For All If Axl Delivers "Chinese Democracy" Before 2009

    Guns N Roses

    Patience
Dr. Pepper is attempting to get out of Axl Rose what Guns N' Roses fans have been waiting almost two decades for -- Chinese Democracy. The soft drink company is "begging" Axl Rose to finally release his 17-year-in-the-making belabored masterpiece by the end of this year. Dr. Pepper will give "everyone in America, except estranged GNR guitarists Slash and Buckethead," a free can of Dr Pepper if the album ships in 2008.(No, I am not kidding.) "It took a little patience for us to perfect Dr Pepper's special mix of 23 ingredients, so we completely understand and empathize with Axl's question for the perfect album," a company spokesperson said in a statement. In response to "the Dr. Pepper press release,":http://pressreleasetosaveworld.blogspot.com/ which is pretty clever renegade marketing, Axl Rose released the following statement to fans."We are surprised and very happy to have the support of Dr Pepper with our album "Chinese Democracy," as for us, this came totally out of the blue. If there is any involvement with this promotion by our record company or others, we are unaware of such at this time. And as some of Buckethead's performances are on our album, I'll share my Dr Pepper with him.Axl RoseThe $13 million album and follow-up to 1991's Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II was last scheduled for release in 2007. Given the time it's taken to make Chinese Democracy, we hope Rose is smart and releases it via the band's Web site. Head to Dr. Pepper's blog "Chinese Democracy When?":http://www.chinesedemocracywhen.blogspot.com/ to learn more about "one beverage's journey to convince Axl Rose that this is the year to deliver the greatest album known to all things."Smart marketing? Or cheap ply? Do you even about the release of Chinese Democracy anymore?

  4. sonical says I think this is pretty funny. I've work in advertising and this will get them a lot of press both now and at the end of the year when the album isn't quite finished. Charley, you're on a roll today!

  6. MrFrost says How would they enact this plan to give out the free sodas? That seems like a huge undertaking

  7. Cody B says I think they would do it like the food giveaways Hearst did when the SLA had Patty..Big Dr. Pepper truck, back door open, and screaming masses of folks clamoring for free soda..more press. Of course, they prolly aren't gonna have to pay, and I bet they have an insurance policy if they do. Maybe they could have a Chinese Democracy/DR.pepper MP3 flash drive built into a straw.

  9. Cody B says Thanks bbf..Axl is so far gone(at least in what gets out to the world) that it is scary. Since I have a good cross section of knowlegable biz folk here, and along the lines of long awaited records,What's up with D'Angelo? What prize could be offered up by a company for him not releasing his next record? It's only been 8 years..maybe a free magic 8 ball if he can't release by 2009, or maybe just an eight ball or an eighth oz..Or maybe Olde English 800 should step up with a sponsorship..

  11. allenblakecassady says as a rather dutiful and estranged member of a guns n' roses forum now for...uh...4 years now, it has been cynically ingrained into my outlook on the world that no matter who asks or who attempts to will chinese democracy out of mr. bailey and his motley crue of misfits and avant-garde perfectionists, mr. bailey will never comply and it's totally futile on the part of anyone who even attempts to ask for the disk.
