How do MGMT get on stage at the hyped up, exclusive Playboy/C3 after-hours party (which in retrospect wasn't really that exclusive since the line to get in line stretched a few blocks) and not play their two biggest crowd pleasers -- "Kids" and "Time To Pretend"? It left many people in the crowd scratching their heads and saying," What the f#!*k? The duo flanked by three other members onstage sounded more like a rock band than a dance duo during their set at the abandoned warehouse. Playmates, not the hottest ones the magazine has to offer by any means, paraded the venue in trademark bunny ears and skanky ensembles. By far, of the three main acts scheduled to perform the party - MGMT, Justice and Moby - the most anticipated was the French duo. However to the surprise of everyone in attendance Moby blew everyone out of the water despite being billed as the second to last act. You'd think they'd save best for last. The Mob-ster, who performed earlier with Lou Reed at the Fader party, spun a DJ set that had the adrenaline rush of his early album Everything Is Wrong. Recognizable samples were interspersed with new ones making the songs interesting and new, but still bearing a familiarity to dance to.
