Turns out David Bowie is helping Woody Allen muse Scarlett Johansson on her debut music album, Anywhere I Lay My Head. Bowie lent his chops on two songs on the record - "Fannin’ Street" and "Falling Down." We can only assume the collaboration came with the help of the record's producer David Sitek. Sitek is a member of TV on the Radio, whom Bowie has plugged through the years. Billboard reports that the two met at a party where Johansson had the balls to ask Bowie to contribute on the album. Either way, we're sure having Sitek on board helped too. Yeah Yeah Yeahs guitarist Nick Zinner contributes guitar work on the album. Anywhere I Lay My Head, due May 6th via Atco, features ten Tom Waits covers. The title is taken from the closing track on Waits' 1985 album, Rain Dogs.At a press conference yesterday Johansson told journalists she had sent waits some "early, early recordings and he said, 'Go ahead.' She also said, "I've heard he's very pleased." The album marks Johansson's first, but she has appeared on stage with Jesus and Mary Chain and contributed on the 2006 celebrity charity compilation Unexpected Dreams: Songs From The Stars.

  4. Chuck Guest says Bowie lending his name to any project makes it cool. I just wonder why SJ would cover ten Waits songs. Sure, he's a great songwriter but it makes this album less of an expression and more an exercise. Besides, part of what makes a Waits song so great is his vocal. (Don't try to tell me that you prefer the Eagles' version of "Ol' 55"!)
