Dresden Dolls Let Fans Make Their Merch

Posted about 1 year ago
Dresden Doll singer Amanda Palmer is letting fans create the band's merch and and make some dough while doing it. Inspired by the many dolls crafty fans make and give to the singer at Dresden Doll shows, Palmer has started Post-War Trade, a cooperative project where fans design and make all of The Dresden Dolls merchandise and share in the profits. The idea for the venture draws its roots from a collective of professional and amateur performance artists who are part of The Dresden Dolls' live show and also known as the Brigade."I was constantly getting my mind blown by how creative our fans were," Palmer told Pollstar.com. "Some of this stuff was actually really high quality merchandise, because these people were real artist who spent time on their work. It seemed obvious to kind of turn that in on itself and reach out to those people to actually make our merch.""It's two-fold," Palmer continued. "It's not just that the stuff is cool because I'm actually really directly involved in making it and approving it. It's also that it's not just being manufactured by random people in a random factory - the majority of it will hopefully be handmade by the fans."Email ideas to info@postwartrade.com.Dresden Doll tour dates:12/27/07 Baltimore, MD Rams Head Live! 12/27/07 Washington, DC Sixth & I Historic Synagogue 12/28/07 Philadelphia, PA The Fillmore - TLA 12/29/07 Boston, MA Orpheum Theatre 12/31/07 New York, NY Manhattan Center 01/03/08 Montreal, QC Le National 01/04/08 Toronto, ON Phoenix Concert Theatre 01/05/08 Chicago, IL Vic Theatre 01/06/08 Saint Louis, MO The Pageant 01/08/08 Birmingham, AL WorkPlay Theatre 01/10/08 Tampa, FL Tampa Theatre 01/11/08 Atlanta, GA Variety Playhouse 01/12/08 Durham, NC Carolina Theatre 01/13/08 Norfolk, VA NorVa

  1. Radiohead head says If the Dolls list their merch on eBay it will automatically be picked up and listed on their Dresden Dolls tour map (see small ebay box on right side) - this gets lots of free exposure, several thousand eyes per day...
